I love puzzles, crossword, jigsaw, you name it, so I was intrigued when I came across the puzzle of why the Essene sect is currently dismissed as a late arrival and of no significance in Israel's history, while all the early writers say it was a very old sect and very large. The more I read on the subject the angrier I became... All evidence supporting the contentions of the early writers - and there is a great deal of it - was either ignored or dismissed as unreliable. There almost seemed a conspiracy to consign the Essenes to oblivion. Finally I became so incensed that I commited myself to becoming the Essenes champion and to do everything I could to ensure that they took their rightful place as the major player in Israel's history.
