Final Comments Evidence from the Old Testament, The Scrolls, the New Testament, and the early writers Philo, Josephus, and Hippolytus, is all consistent with the Sect of the Essenes being the oldest and the largest sect in Israel. The early writers were right; the current theory is wrong.
